Director & Founder
Desire KG Tumuramye is the co-founder of IAG and the Executive Director since inception in 2019. Desire is a clinical Doctor, with a background in Nursing and crisis counselling. She has held leadership positions including serving as a Manager in Mariestopes/ug, hotline crisis counsellor in MSU, and Study Nurse in MTI. Being an African woman, living in Uganda, she has a unique perspective on the challenges of how poor and vulnerable African women balance motherhood, health, household income, and generational poverty. She has in-depth knowledge on the impact of young women missing schools due to their menstrual cycle. She is married with three children.
Assistant Director & Co-Founder
Muhumuza is a co-founder of IAG, a Lawyer and an advocate for human rights with an emphasis on the protection and realization of women's rights. He is currently the CEO of Lightspeed Brand Protection Company and practices Law in the jurisdictions of Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. He is also the founder of STAND (Support, Teach, Nurture and Defend) for Her. “STAND for Her”, is a high school club with a sole purpose of raising a generation of young boys that are conscious of the gender inequalities and stand against them. Muhumuza joined the founding team to synthesize men’s role in realization of Women and girl’s rights.
Ms Dorothy Musiimenta is the project manager IAG and one of the pioneers of I Am A Girl. She has worked with the organization since its inception in 2018. She has a back ground of nursing, clinical medicine and community health. She has worked with the community to improve and sustain projects on gender equality, livelihood and empowerment. she is passionate about growth of women and seeing them take a front stand on financial independence. Growing up from a typical African family and being a mother, is one of the reasons she has passion working with girls and women to help empower them overcome gender inferiority.
Monitoring & Evaluation Manager
Flora Cohen is the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Manager of IAG. She is currently a Research Manager at TPO Uganda, and a PhD student at Washington University in St. Louis with a specialization in mental health program implementation in low resource settings. She held various positions at organizations in Uganda, Indonesia, and the US as a program developer, researcher, and case manager. Flora currently resides in Kiryandongo, Uganda.
Miranda joined the Board as Board Chair in January 2021. She has eight years of experience working with nonprofit organizations and holds a Masters degree in Nonprofit Management from the New School in New York City, New York. She currently works for the Institute of International Education as a Data Analyst for an international undergraduate recruitment program. Miranda has worked and lived in China, Zambia, and North Macedonia where she served as a Community Development Peace Corps Volunteer from 2015-2017. Miranda currently resides in Philadelphia with her sister and cat.
Katie joined the Board as in March 2021. She has worked in communications for five years, three of which were spent working on nonprofit communications. She currently works for a global marketing firm focusing on changing policies to improve the health the of world's most vulnerable populations. Katie has worked and lived in Czech Republic, Spain, and Uganda where she served as an Education Peace Corps Volunteer from 2018-19. Katie currently resides in Washington, D.C.
